theres no way that you can carry all the stuff that you need in a backpack so you really need a base early on with chest storage. that time where you could explore for 20 days and quickly assamble a base in the last second before winter are gone in sw. i usually go on a island that has beach and jungle biome because of snake dens and crabs for surfnturf and pirate parrots who leave me dobloons for new gold nuggets later on. try to find a magma biome where you can dig up the piles for gold and rocks and then start building your base on a island that you like. Only thing that im really missing is the silk for the pirate hat but if i would've gone for that aswell i probably wouldn't have made it this far again and probably riped again somehow. Its not the end of the world for food since that island also has 2 snake dens and crabs but im really missing out on silk for the pirat hatanator which is kind of a shame because i got 2 cocoguard spawns which did yield me quick 30 living logs in the hurricane season and a purple gem from the trawl net.i even have enough nightmare fuel for the shadow manipulator and maybe 3 darkswords. I got killed so many times because of this hasty playstyle, that i go slower now and didn't move a den over yet, didn't make the birdcage since trees drop eggs anyway, no beebox yet because silk doh., no ice maker because 12 hail are easily picked up and crafted to ice for easy meatballs. i want to have almost everything at the end of the first season (gras/twigs farm, alcamy, shadow manipulator, a replanted spider den nearby, bird cage, ice makers, beeboxes etc). your biggest enemy in sw is impatience, for me atleast. Sw seems to be harder but it actually isn't.
